An Introduction to The Elysium
Elysium - Building a Concept
The resort has been constructed in a palatial style and enjoys uninterrupted sea views, providing a place of serenity and grace for its guests. Every detail of the building has been carefully designed, and most of the materials and furnishings have been individually designed by local and Greek craftsmen. The building has an immediate impact from the moment it comes into view. Visitors cross a sturdy drawbridge through a medieval arch into the impressive colonnaded reception. The cultural references of its architecture evoke the rich cultural history of Cyprus, combining Byzantine architecture with elements from Greek, Roman, Medieval and Venetian times. A blend of local stone, marble and timber, warm muted colours and decorative features such as mosaics, arches and columns reflect the aims of the designers to provide a place where guests can enjoy a relaxing and stimulating holiday in a peaceful and secluded environment.
In Greek mythology, the "Elysium" was a place of delight and eternal bliss. The name conjures the very spirit of the hotel, with its spacious setting overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and extensive landscaped gardens with water features, pools and amphitheatre, extending a feeling of wellbeing and indulgence. The location of The Tombs of the Kings nearby indicates that in ancient times this was considered a headland of extreme significance, boasting spectacular views of the sunset and the Mediterranean Sea.
The landscaping design will encourage guests to explore the gardens and directly access the Tombs of the Kings situated next to the grounds of the hotel. There are also a number of striking features in the gardens, which are filled with the scents of jasmine as well as citrus and olive trees and an array of shrubs and flowers. Ancient Greeks would have approved of the site chosen for the amphitheatre, the stepped seats providing views to the sunset and the sea. The amphitheatre is accessed through a lavender-lined path.
The central feature of the multi-level swimming pool is the rotunda, where the hydro-pool can be found. A shoreline pathway enables access for pedestrians along the coastline to the Paphos harbour, as many guests will appreciate the freedom to explore beyond the resort.
The Life Giving Source Chapel
This Byzantine chapel, which can be used for wedding ceremonies of up to 38 people inside, is located next to a beautiful 'break out' garden adjacent to The Basilica Grand Hall. Every detail for a perfectly organised wedding is undertaken by the hotel's banqueting department.
Dining is a key element of the Elysium experience. A choice of six restaurants offers guests delicious gourmet menus and appetising healthy options, using locally-grown fresh ingredients. Farmers of a plot located adjacent to the hotel grow fresh herbs and vegetables to the Executive Chef's preferences.
At Ristorante Bacco – a name known and appreciated in a number of European countries – you will enjoy not only a delicious meal, but a complete dining experience in a warm and intimate setting. Authentic Italian cuisine with highlights from Tuscany is captured in a sumptuous menu that includes fresh, homemade pasta dishes, tender meat and fish specialities, and the most popular Italian dessert favourites, all based on original recipes and ingredients. Allow us to recommend a matching Italian wine, or come to the glass-fronted fine wine storage cellar to choose and taste wines yourself. Whether you prefer a table indoors or in the sunken courtyard outside, we invite you to sit back and enjoy Bacco’s unique gastronomic experience in a distinctive ambience.
This open-air restaurant offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and serves specialities that include meze, pasta and fresh fish. The rustic atmosphere is enhanced by an open-plan kitchen and traditional wooden furniture. Mediterraneo offers seating for approximately 150 people.
The Epicurean Restaurant
A curving cloister leads diners into the impressive space of the main restaurant, which is spanned by four flattened stone arches supported on piers. Uninterrupted views of the gardens and pools can be enjoyed on the west. Live entertainment and themed nights are provided during most evenings.
In a secluded area and with a style of its own, the O’Shin Restaurant introduces a new dimension to the Elysium’s gastronomy options. Style and décor featuring illuminated alcoves are as distinctive as every dish. Here our Chefs are proud to present you with an exquisite menu based on the contemporary way and art of Sushi. Fresh produce and unique creations express a cuisine with an inspirational and wandering soul.
The Lemonia Piazza
Reminiscent of a picturesque village square surrounded by arches with heavy timber beams and yellow paving slabs, the spacious Lemonia Piazza is synonymous with the pleasures of al fresco dining overlooking the hotel’s water fountains and cascades. Visit the Lemonia any time of the day, for breakfast, lunch or dinner – with a children’s menu to assure that every member of the family is left more than satisfied!
Brasserie Messina is a place for relaxed enjoyment where simple but high quality food is served. Using only the finest ingredients, our chefs take great joy in serving authentic French cuisine in a Brasserie atmosphere. The extensive wine list includes wines from France, new world wines as well as wines from Cyprus and Greece, ensuring that there is something for everyone. From May to October Brasserie Messina can be enjoyed outdoors.
Located in the heart of the resort, the Café Occidental enjoys dramatic views of the sea to the west and of the vast atrium with its floor mosaics, urns, buttresses and massive timber roof to the east. The focal point is the medieval fireplace made of antique stone. A library adjacent to the fireplace provides newspapers and books for a relaxing read or quiet conversation. Drinks, gateaux and pastries with freshly brewed coffee are served throughout the day. English afternoon teas are also available daily.
MARE NOSTRUM Pool Bar
Sunken below ground level and at the same height as the pool water, Mare Nostrum is surrounded by rustic stone planters, which form a piazza protected by timber pergolas. Set adjacent to the pool, it combines a nautical experience reminiscent of a seaside fishing village built on the edge of the sea - a truly Mediterranean experience.
Astria bar is themed around the night sky and its constellations. Intimate seating allows for privacy, while two external pergola-covered terraces offer additional seating overlooking the Lethe Spring, which is lit up at night.
